Finance Minister Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury on Thursday placed the proposed budget for FY2026–27 in parliament, saying the government aims to move away from a debt-dependent growth model and build an economy driven by production and investment.
The proposed budget is set at Tk 9,38,000 crore, making it one of the largest in the country’s history.
Revenue income has been projected at Tk 6,95,000 crore, leaving a deficit of Tk 2,43,000 crore, which will be financed through domestic and foreign borrowing.
The finance minister said pressure on bank borrowing will be reduced as financing is increasingly shifted towards the bond market, including green bonds, sukuk and corporate bonds.
