Budget proposes Tk 10L loan for foreign language learners

The proposal aims to enhance the competitiveness of Bangladeshi workers in the global labour market

The government plans to expand foreign language education and offer loans of up to Tk10 lakh for students pursuing higher studies abroad, according to the proposed budget for FY2026–27.

Japanese, Korean, Mandarin, Arabic, French and German are set to be included in the education system as part of the initiative, the budget speech said.

Students gaining proficiency in these languages will be eligible for the loans to support overseas education.

The proposal aims to enhance the competitiveness of Bangladeshi workers in the global labour market.

Finance Minister Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury unveiled the proposed national budget in parliament on Thursday, the first under the current government. The budget outlay is Tk938,000 crore.
