NBR extends income tax return filing deadline by another month

New deadline for tax return filing is May 15

Update : 13 Apr 2026, 06:10 PM

The National Board of Revenue (NBR) has extended the deadline for filing income tax returns by another month for all taxpayers, except natural persons and Hindu undivided families.

Now, returns for the tax year 2025-2026 can be filed till May 15.

The NBR announced this decision in an order issued on Monday (April 13).

It said that this time has been extended under the powers conferred under clause (b) of section 334 of the Income Tax Act, 2023.

The order mentioned that the last date for filing returns for taxpayers whose financial year ended on June 30, 2025, has been extended by another month to May 15, 2026.

NBR sources said that this time has been extended to facilitate the process of preparation and filing of returns by taxpayers and to ensure that more returns are filed on time.

Copies of the order in this regard have been sent to all relevant tax regions, tax commissioner's offices, tax appeal regions, large taxpayer units, intelligence and investigation units, and various departments of the NBR.
