The Bangladesh Textile Mills Association (BTMA) has temporarily postponed the decision to close textile mills from February 1 (Sunday).
This information was given in a press release sent to the media on Thursday (January 29).
BTMA said that the decision to temporarily suspend the program to close textile mills has been taken considering the positive progress in the ongoing discussions on yarn imports, as well as the upcoming national parliamentary elections and referendum.
The press release further said that on January 27, a meeting was held in the conference room of the Ministry of Commerce under the chairmanship of Commerce Adviser Sheikh Bashiruddin to resolve the existing problems of the ready-made garments and textile sectors.
The adviser acknowledged the legitimacy of these problems and highlighted the strategic importance of the spinning industry in the country's export trade and industrial sectors.
The release also mentioned that at this time, he pledged to take effective, realistic and fair steps on behalf of the government to resolve the problem as soon as possible.
BTMA said that in this continuation, a coordination meeting will be held on February 3 at the Ministry of Finance with the participation of all the stakeholders concerned.
The organization hoped that there will be a detailed discussion on what needs to be done to resolve the crisis in the spinning and textile sectors at that meeting.
According to BTMA, the program has been suspended for the time being out of the optimism that the problem can be resolved through fruitful dialogue and coordination with the government.
