The National Board of Revenue (NBR) has launched a system to automatically credit income tax paid at the import stage in the taxpayer's e-return.
For this purpose, it was launched from Sunday after completing the effective connection process of NBR's e-return system with Asycuda World.
As a result, the long-standing suffering of taxpayers in getting credit against advance income tax payment at the import stage has come to an end.
At the same time, the e-return filing process has become easier and more transparent for importer traders.
According to the NBR, while entering business income information in the e-return, the importer taxpayer will automatically see all the information on advance income tax paid against each bill of entry in the relevant income year.
This income tax paid at the import stage will be automatically adjusted from the total income tax payable in the e-return system to calculate the final amount payable in the return.
Meanwhile, since the launch of the online e-return filing program for the 2025-26 tax year on the website www.etaxnbr.gov.bd by Finance Adviser Dr. Salehuddin Ahmed on August 4, 2025, there has been a huge response.
According to NBR data, so far more than 4.6 million taxpayers have registered in the e-return system and about 3.3 million taxpayers have already filed their returns online.
It is noteworthy that those for whom e-return filing is not mandatory are also voluntarily filing their returns online.
In addition, expatriate Bangladeshi taxpayers are also getting the opportunity to file their returns online by registering in the e-return system in the current tax year.
So far, about 4,000 expatriate Bangladeshis have filed their income tax returns for the 2025-26 tax year online.
The NBR also said that there is no need to upload any papers or documents for filing e-returns online. All activities of the NBR are continuing so that individual taxpayers can easily pay income tax and file returns from home.
The National Board of Revenue has requested all individual taxpayers to file their income tax returns online using the e-return system by January 31, 2026.
