NSU VC attends Indonesia Insurance Summit 2025 as distinguished speaker

The summit brought together leading figures from the insurance industry, academia, government, and regulatory bodies across Asia and beyond

Prof Abdul Hannan Chowdhury, vice-chancellor of North South University (NSU) and chairman of Grameen Bank, has delivered a speech on “Unlocking the Potential of Underserved Customers: The Role of Insurance” at the Indonesia Insurance Summit (IIS) 2025, from May 21 to 23 in Bali, Indonesia. 

This event is organized by the Insurance Council of Indonesia (DAI). 

The summit brought together leading figures from the insurance industry, academia, government, and regulatory bodies across Asia and beyond. 

Discussions focused on the future of insurance, financial innovation, and how academic and industry partnerships can support sustainable development. 

In his speech, Professor Abdul Hannan Chowdhury highlighted global challenges and opportunities in the insurance sector. 

He emphasized the need for innovation and inclusive financial systems to make insurance accessible to underserved populations. 

Drawing on Bangladesh’s experience in microfinance and inclusive financial models, he showcased how such approaches can serve as examples for building resilience and equity in the global insurance landscape. 

Professor Chowdhury delivered insights on the topic “Unlocking the Potential of Underserved Customers: The Role of Insurance,” emphasizing inclusive growth and innovative financial solutions to address the needs of marginalized communities. 

His participation highlighted Bangladesh’s growing role in promoting financial inclusion and sustainable development on the global stage. 

His speech also touched on the importance of collaboration between academia and industry to shape future insurance policies and practices, especially in the face of growing economic and climate-related risks.

The summit, held under the theme "Reimagining the Future of Insurance with Innovation for a Sustainable Future," convened global leaders and experts from the financial sector and academia to explore cutting-edge strategies shaping the future of insurance. 

As part of his international visit, Professor Chowdhury is also scheduled to meet with representatives from Nanyang Technological University (NTU), Singapore, on May 25 to explore opportunities for academic and research collaboration.
