Under the "ODOMMO" project funded by the Malala Fund and implemented by Jaago Foundation Trust, a district-level dialogue on the challenges and solutions in girls' education was held in Mithamain, Kishoreganj.
Kishoreganj, a district rich in historical significance, comprises 13 upazilas, one of which is Mithamain, located in the northeastern part of the district.
Despite its natural beauty, Kishoreganj lags behind in indicators of women's education, child marriage, gender-based violence, and social inequality.
The dialogue addressed these issues and sought solutions to remove barriers to girls' education in the region.
The ODOMMO project aims to increase girls' school enrollment, raise awareness about women's education and gender equality, and establish girls' clubs.
It provides educational support through STEM, SEL, and Competency-Based Learning methods.
Additionally, workshops and training sessions are being held for teachers and School Management Committee (SMC) members to promote a gender-friendly learning environment and effective monitoring.
Through the project, efforts are being made to raise awareness about child marriage, sexual harassment, and gender-based violence, while also providing sanitary napkins and education on menstrual hygiene.
District Women's Affairs Officer Mamun Or Rashid said in her remarks: "To bring real change in society, we must prioritize education and women's rights. Although there are many challenges, we are committed to ensuring the welfare and safety of women and children. The Directorate of Women’s Affairs is working to provide essential resources and services for women while spreading the necessary awareness. We must engage more deeply with local communities and increase women's participation. Through effective campaigns, we can reduce violence and create a safer environment for everyone."
Korvi Rakshand, chairman of Jaago Foundation Trust, said: "Jaago Foundation Trust believes that education is the most powerful tool for changing the world. Kamrul Kibria Ayon, education champion of Jaago Foundation Trust, added: "In remote areas like Mithamain, where access to quality education is limited, the ODOMMO project is a powerful catalyst for promoting education-friendly policies, creating a safe and inclusive educational environment, and increasing the importance of girls' education."
The project's beneficiary, Tasmia Mim, said: "Being a member of the Girls' Club has helped me become more confident and aware. Now, I am helping to raise awareness among other girls in my school. The activities of the Girls' Club have made me more skilled, which benefits those around me as well."
The ODOMMO project will continue its efforts to increase educational opportunities for girls and eliminate social barriers, including child marriage. This initiative aims to empower women and bring positive social change.
