The next year is going to mark the golden jubilee of diplomatic relations between Bangladesh and China.
On this significant occasion, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s visit to China will start from 8 July. During this visit, several notable agreements and memorandums of understanding will be signed between the two countries, with development taking centre stage.
During this development-focused visit, a significant agreement will be signed between Nagad Digital Bank PLC, the country’s first digital bank, and a renowned Chinese company, according to sources in the know of the matter.
To finalize this agreement, Tanvir A Mishuk, CEO of Nagad Digital Bank, will accompany Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, as confirmed by state sources.
However, details regarding the agreement could not be known.
Zahidul Islam Sajal, head of Media and Communications at Nagad Ltd, confirmed the impending agreement with a Chinese company but refrained from providing further details.
He said: “We are not yet in a position to disclose details about this agreement. What we can say now is that this will be a very significant deal for Bangladesh’s economic sector.”
Bangladesh holds greater geopolitical importance now than ever, which is why this visit by the Prime Minister is being closely observed worldwide.
Bangladesh and China elevated their bilateral relations to a strategic partnership from trade and economic cooperation eight years ago when Chinese President Xi Jinping visited Dhaka.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina last visited China in 2019. After completing the upcoming four-day visit, the PM is expected to return on July 11.
After the end of the formal meeting of the two sides during this visit of PM Sheikh Hasina, a joint statement from both countries will declare China as a comprehensive strategic cooperative partner in Bangladesh’s development.
In line with this goal, various public and private sector entities from both countries will sign significant partnership agreements across different sectors.
Chiefs of several private financial institutions will accompany PM Hasina on her visit to China.
Notably, the inclusion of CEO of Nagad Digital Bank Tanvir A Mishuk in PM’s entourage is seen as highly significant.
Recently, Nagad Digital Bank PLC has obtained the license and is on the verge of commencing its operations.
They have already entered into several agreements with renowned global entities, including Oracle and Silverlake.
Sources indicate that Nagad Digital Bank is coming up with a groundbreaking agreement for the financial sector.
