Around 30% readymade garment (RMG) factories have cleared wages as of March, according to the Industrial Police (IP).

They also said that around 70% of the factories have also cleared bonuses ahead of the upcoming Eid-ul-Fitr.

However, nearly 100 factories have yet to pay the wages for February, said Nurani Ferdous Disha, superintendent (operations) of Industrial Police.

The Industrial Police SP also said that they were hopeful the remaining wages and arrears will be paid by April 9.

Meanwhile, a number of factories have already started their Eid holidays and are closed for production.

Earlier on March 20, State Minister for Labour and Employment Md Nazrul Islam Chowdhury said that a decision had been taken to provide the salary for March and festival bonuses to readymade garment (RMG) workers before the holiday of Eid-ul-Fitr began.

The decision was taken in a meeting of the tripartite consultative council of the RMG sector at the ministry's conference room with the state minister in the chair last month.
