The passing out ceremony of the twelve batch of pre-sea cadets of International Maritime Academy was held at its own campus at Pubail, Gazipur.
Seventy-eight cadets of 12th batch have passed out this year from Nautical and Engineering division.
This is the first permanent institution for maritime training in the private sector.
On 1 March 2010, the International Maritime Academy celebrated the passing out ceremony of its first batch of cadets.
Subsequently, eleven batch of cadets and eight batch of ratings passed out from this academy.
Currently, 80 cadets of 13th batch and 50 Ratings of 9th batch are undergoing training.
The training is conducted as per the syllabus approved by the Department of Shipping and Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Maritime University.
On completion of two-year training at the institute, the trainees will join as cadets on foreign going vessels, managed by Haque and Sons Ltd in reputed foreign flag companies.
They will also earn their salary as per international scale.
Md. Mostofa Kamal Senior Shipping Secretary, attended the occasion as Chief Guest.
Commodore Mohammad Maksud Alam, director general, Department of Shipping was the special guest.
The Commandant of the Academy, Capt. Zaki Ahad in his welcome address apprised the audience about the progress being made by the academy to enhance maritime education and training in the private sector. He also stated the training facilities of the installation.
A ceremonial march past conducted by smartly turned out contingent of cadets followed by an oath taking ceremony.
Gold Medal for overall best performance was awarded to Cadet Nazmul Sakib Rabit.
Cadet Sajid Bin Mahmood received the silver medal as the best Nautical Cadet and Cadet Md Mahbub Alam received the Silver Medal as the best Engineering cadet.
The passing out ceremony ended with slow march past by the cadets in line with tradition of the merchant marine.
Vote of thanks by Capt. Subrata Kumar Saha, Deputy Commandant, International Maritime Academy marked the end of the ceremony.
