German container liner shipping company - Hapag-Lloyd has announced increased tariff rates from Bangladesh to its European destinations by $200 per container.
According to the announcement published on their website, the new tariff rate will be effective from November 1.
The shipping company also hiked tariff rates from Turkey.
“Our ocean tariff rates from Bangladesh to North Europe and South Europe will increase. This update will apply for all 20’ (Twenty-foot equivalent units – TEUs) and 40’ (Forty-foot equivalent units) dry containers, including high cube equipment and applies to sailings starting on November 1, 2023, and is valid until further notice,” the company said in the announcement.
Current base rates of the containers to North Europe and South Europe are $459 and $711 for the 20’ dry containers, respectively, which will be hiked to $659 and $911 respectively, said the German-based shipping company.
Moreover, the base rates level for 40’ containers will be also hiked to the mentioned destinations, from the current $968 for North Europe and $1172 for South Europe to $1168 and $1372 for North and South Europe, respectively.
The shipping company explained the geographical destinations as follows, North Europe includes export destinations like Germany, Netherlands, United Kingdom, Belgium, France, Poland, Denmark, Sweden, Ireland, Norway, Finland, Lithuania, Czech Republic, Hungary, Latvia, Austria, Switzerland, Slovakia, Estonia, Iceland, and Luxembourg.
South Europe includes countries like Spain, Portugal, Italy, Algeria, Morocco, Malta, Tunisia, Albania, Bulgaria, Croatia, Georgia, Greece, Israel, Montenegro, Libya, Bosnia, Herzegovina, Romania, Cyprus, Slovenia, Lebanon, Turkey and Ukraine.
An official of the company’s Dhaka Office said that the changes in the tariff charges are a part of their regular charge upgrade.
