A closer look at the 2023 Toyota Prado and the new Ford Everest

Both the vehicles come with seven seats

Update : 09 Oct 2023, 10:23 AM

For many years, Toyota has dominated the domestic market for full-sized SUVs. Now, many challengers have emerged with a wider price range and more companies entering the market.

These factors are not only changing the dynamics of the market but also posing a significant test to Toyota's long standing reign in the segment.

Toyota Prado

The 2023 Toyota Prado 2.7L is a versatile and rugged SUV that has been a popular choice among off-road enthusiasts and families alike in Bangladesh for decades now, however, it comes with its fair share of pros and cons, making it essential to carefully consider your needs and preferences before making a purchase decision.

The Toyota Prado has a solid reputation for its off-road prowess. With features like four-wheel drive, low-range gearing, and a robust suspension system, it can handle challenging terrains with ease, something that can come in handy when you’re travelling outside the city and also given the recent floods Dhaka has been experiencing.

Prado interior

Toyota is renowned for its durability and reliability with most of your models, and the Prado is no exception. It's built to last, making it an excellent long-term investment.

The 2023 model offers a roomy and comfortable interior, with ample space for both passengers and cargo. It's an excellent choice for bigger families on trips and long journeys. However, some users may find the infotainment system outdated compared to competitors, lacking modern features and intuitive user interfaces.

While the Prado does offer third-row seating, it can be cramped for adults, and access to the rear seats can be challenging, so it's better to place the kids back there.

The 2.7L petrol engine provides a respectable towing capacity, making it suitable for towing trailers and boats, not that you’ll be doing much towing in Dhaka, but it's always good to know that your vehicle is capable of such tasks.

Though the engine may be underpowered for some, and its fuel efficiency isn't class-leading. If you prioritize fuel economy, you may want to consider other options.

The Prado tends to be on the pricier side compared to some of its competitors. The 2023 model comes with a price tag of Tk1.9 crore to Tk2.2 crore depending on the specifications and other factors. If you're on a tight budget, you may need to explore more affordable SUV options.

In summary, I think the 2023 Toyota Prado 2.7L is a capable and reliable SUV as it excels in durability and offers a spacious interior, making it suitable for various purposes. However, it may not be the most fuel-efficient option, and the price can be a deterrent for some buyers.

Ultimately, your decision should depend on your specific needs and preferences, especially if you plan to use it primarily for city driving or have other plans with your vehicle.

Ford Everest

In the ever-expanding world of SUVs, the 2023 Ford Everest 2.0L diesel stands as a compelling option for those seeking versatility, performance, and rugged style. At a significantly cheaper price range, this vehicle offers a balanced expedition for adventure-seekers and family road-trippers alike.

Like the Prado, the Everest's interior is roomy, accommodating up to seven passengers comfortably, and offers ample cargo space for luggage or outdoor gear.

Ford Everest Interior

With a Terrain Management System and impressive ground clearance, the Everest tackles challenging terrains with ease. But, the rugged suspension setup, designed for off-road prowess, can result in a less-than-smooth ride on paved roads, which may be uncomfortable for some passengers.

The 2.0L diesel engine provides robust torque, making it ideal for off-road excursions and towing heavy loads. While the diesel engine offers power, just like the Prado it comes at the expense of fuel efficiency.

The Everest's price point may seem a little steep, especially when considering higher trim levels and optional features, making it less accessible for budget-conscious buyers. It comes at a price tag of Tk1.6 crore to 1.7 core depending on the options.

Ultimately, the Everest strikes a balance that will satisfy many, but it's essential to consider individual preferences and priorities. The fact that it's a Ford might raise concerns about its spare parts but that should not be too much of a concern nowadays as regular parts can easily be sourced locally as well and any spare parts can now be imported in a matter of days.
