Tanners in the country collected more than 4.11 million pieces of salted rawhide and skins until July 5, as per Commerce Ministry data.
An estimated 14.1 million sacrificial animals, including cow, buffalo, sheep and goat, were slaughtered during Eid-ul-Azha on June 29, disclosed the Fisheries and Livestock Ministry.
Industry insiders are expecting to collect more than 9.5 million pieces of salted hides nationwide this year.
They said the traders concerned were buying different types of rawhide and skins at the rates set by the government.
The government fixed the prices of salt-applied rawhide of sacrificial animals with a 6% hike in cowhide price compared to last year's.
The rawhide prices of sacrificial cattle have been fixed at Tk50-55 per square foot (sq ft) in Dhaka city and Tk45-48 per sq ft outside Dhaka.
