Update : 02 Nov 2021, 06:20 PM

Arla food reached out to 13 lakh people to raise awareness about the goodness of milk and nutrition as part of their journey early this year.

Their target was to reach out to a million people all throughout the country.

Arla Foods Bangladesh Limited, the local subsidiary of the European dairy cooperative Arla Foods, and the producer of the country’s most popular milk powder brand Dano for 60 years, revealed the information in a press conference on November 2.

The awareness campaign was executed by an on-spot milk trial by providing around 3 lakh glasses of milk for free.

Executing the initiative, Arla Foods reached out to these 13 lakh people in 1,845 areas including 202 RMG factories, they said.

The press conference was attended by Danish Ambassador to Bangladesh, Winnie Estrup Petersen and Peter Hallberg, managing director at Arla Foods Bangladesh Limited, among others.

The representatives from Bangladesh Investment Development Authority, Bangladesh Food Safety Authority and Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institution were also present at the press conference.

Galib Bin Mohammad, head of marketing at Arla Foods Bangladesh Limited presented the keynote at the programme.

In his keynote, Galib Bin Mohammad said they take their commitment to provide quality nutrition to the people very seriously.

He added: “We control our entire supply chain from the grass that is fed to our cows to the delivery of the tasty products in our consumers’ table ensuring that our consumers have full confidence in our products.”

Arla’s mission is to encourage the people of Bangladesh to consume milk and dairy products.

“Also, to present these products to the people in new formats and in a way that is sustainable at the same time, without harming the environment, and contributes to business expansion and economic development,” he added.

According to him, Arla Foods is working by taking care of the economy, business and people – all these three aspects, and inspiring people to consume their products.

Israt Jahan, a prominent nutritionist, said that about two crore people are still living below the poverty line in our country and that 31% of the children are still under-height and 22% are underweight.

“The adults of our country are also suffering from malnutrition-related problems. Again, the expenditure of the people of the country has increased. So, when it comes to balancing income with expenditure, the nutritional aspect is being neglected,” she added.

She also said that milk is the ideal food with which all the daily nutritional needs can be met.

“Many government agencies are now working on nutrition awareness for children. This work will be more dynamic if more private milk or dairy products companies like Arla Foods come forward,” she added.

Peter Hallberg, managing director of Arla Foods Bangladesh said that Arla Foods care for the communities in which they operate.

“We are not only committed to ensuring that each of our products meets the high-quality standards but are also proactive in creating value in our business sector; be it through spreading awareness on nutrition or through building capacity of the industry,” he added.

According to the company, Arla Foods Bangladesh Ltd has been operating in Bangladesh since 2014 along with its certified packaging facility located in Konabari, Gazipur.

Its portfolio currently includes Dano Power, Dano Growth Shakti and Dano Daily Pushti, providing dairy nourishment and nutrition to almost 1.2 crore Bangladeshi homes every month.

The company also said that Arla Foods, a 140-year-old international dairy company, is owned by 9,400 farmers from Denmark, Sweden, the UK, Germany, Belgium, Luxembourg, and the Netherlands.

Arla Foods is the fourth-largest player in the international dairy arena with its operation in 150 countries and earns around 11 billion euro in revenue.

Arla Foods is focused on providing good dairy nourishment from sustainable farming and operations and is also the world's largest manufacturer of organic dairy products.

Dano, a brand of Arla Foods, started its journey in Bangladesh in 1961 to give access to milk to millions of Bangladeshis at an affordable price.

The company has already created over 1600 direct and additional indirect jobs with its operation in Bangladesh.
