Bangladesh is set to host the 37th edition of the World Fashion Convention in November next year.
The convention will be organized jointly by the International Apparel Federation (IAF) and the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) on November 13-16, 2022 at Dhaka.
The IAF is the leading organization of world-renowned brands, manufacturers and associations having members from 40 countries and these include garment manufacturers and brands.
Faruque Hassan, president of the BGMEA, revealed this in his post-COP26 press conference in the capital on Saturday.
“We attended the 36th World Fashion Convention organized by the International Apparel Federation (IAF) at Antwerp in Belgium, and also the IAF board meeting,” he said.
"BGMEA is a permanent member of IAF and I am a board of director of this organization," the BGMEA president also mentioned.
He also said that the venue announcement was made during the closing ceremony of the 36th IAF convention at Antwerp.
“It is a matter of great joy and pride for us to host the 37th IAF World Fashion Convention next year on the 50th founding anniversary of the IAF,” he added.
He also said that on this occasion, they have planned a week-long event called "Made in Bangladesh Week."
“We hope that the third Dhaka Apparel Summit, fashion festival, exposition and some award programs will be held during the week-long event to showcase the capabilities and achievements of the garment sector to the world and discuss the prospects and roadmap of the future,” Hassan also said.
This is the first time in the country that there is a week-long international program surrounding a single industry, he added.
“Through this we will be able to give the important message to the world that we are branding the industry as well as working towards sustainable industrialization by turning around from the pandemic,” he added.
