The government has waived import duty on rice in a bid to bring the market under control.
The National Board of Revenue (NBR) issued a circular in this regard on Sunday.
At the same time, the regulatory duty has been reduced from 25% to 5%.
According to the circular, this facility will be applicable in case of import of any rice except aromatic rice. The facility will remain valid till December 31 this year.
Under this notification, prior to import of rice at subsidized rate, written approval shall be obtained from an officer of the rank of joint secretary designated by the Ministry of Food, the circular added.
