A courtesy call on Tapan Kanti Ghosh, senior secretary of the Ministry of Commerce, was held on June 7, 2023 (Wednesday) at his office.
Myungho Lee, president of the Japan Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce (JBCCI) led the delegation of JBCCI, according to a press release.
The JBCCI delegation included Myungho Lee (President), Asif A Chowdhury (Director), Md Anwar Shahid (Secretary General), Maria Howlader (Joint Treasurer), Sugawara Manabu (Director), Md Jahangir Alam Sarker (Director), Saori Fujimoto (Director), Mohammed Sohel (Director), Nayeemur Rahman (Director), Md Emran (Executive Director), Md Shahriar Omar (Manager), and Nahid Hassan (Executive Officer).
During the courtesy call, the JBCCI Delegation members introduced themselves and discussed briefly enhancing trade and investments between Japan and Bangladesh focusing on the EPA Joint Study between Japan and Bangladesh.
Myungho Lee explained briefly about JBCCI and its contribution to promoting bilateral trade relations between Japan and Bangladesh.
In his remarks, he emphasized on the EPA (Economic Partnership Agreement) between Japan and Bangladesh.
He mentioned that JBCCI formed a Standing Committee on EPA/FTA to collect relevant information and extend support in the process of EPA/FTA.
He also added this committee could be actively involved with M/o Commerce for any sort of support in this regard
Tapan Kanti Ghosh informed us that his ministry is working on Joint Study and it started in April 2023.
The next meeting between MoC and Japan side will take place tentatively in July 2023.
Abdus Samad Azad, explained that in this joint study group, government officials from both sides are working closely and they will definitely keep close contact with JBCCI for getting suggestions regarding EPA issue.
He also thanked JBCCI for visiting his office and discuss on bilateral trade and investment and EPA matters.
He also showed keen interest in working with JBCCI and other organizations including academia for an effective EPA that will bring positive results for both countries.
