The running committee of the said organization is in violation of sections 34 and 36 of the association rules, as there are allegations that the running president has been elected as the president of the organization for a period of more than six years

The government has appointed an administrator for six months at the International Air Express Association of Bangladesh (IAEAB), as it did not hold the election for a new committee in due time.

According to a notification issued by the Ministry of Commerce on Thursday, the ministry appointed Mazharul Islam, deputy secretary of the Commerce Ministry as the administrator of the IAEAB for a period of six months from the date of issue in accordance with section 17 of Trade Organizations Act, 2022 for a fair and acceptable election.

“He will complete the election of the executive committee and participate in the daily activities of the said organization within the prescribed time and hand over the responsibilities to the elected representative and notify this ministry,” the notification added.

The notification also stated that there is an obligation to fulfill the conditions stated in the license of the organization to form a full executive committee by election within the prescribed time as per the Trade Organizations Act, 2022 and the Trade Organizations Rules 1994 and the association memorandum and association rules.

However, the running committee of the said organization is in violation of sections 34 and 36 of the association rules, as there are allegations that the running president has been elected as the president of the organization for a period of more than six years.

The committee of the association is acting for the 4th time in a row, according to the investigation report by the involved officials of the ministry and they complained that it was against the rules.

In light of the investigation report, a show cause notice was sent to this organization as per section 17 of the Trade Organizations Act, 2022 to show why the administrator should not be appointed and the reply to the notice was not approved by the ministry and was considered unsatisfactory, the notification read.

It also appears that the organization is not properly functioning as per the Trade Organizations Act, 2022 and the Trade Organizations Rules, 1994, and the memorandum and articles of association.

According to section 17 of the act, the government may appoint a public administrator for a period not exceeding one year for the purpose of assuming the responsibility for the activities of the said committee.
