Speakers at a program on Saturday urged the government to declare a proper incentive and tax benefit package for skilled expatriate Bangladeshis so that they can return to the country with investments.

They also underscored the need for strengthened people to people connection and improved cultural ties to explore trade opportunities with different countries.

They made the call at a meeting between a visiting delegation of All Wales Trade, Investment and Education Mission and the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) at the FBCCI office in the city.

Presided over by FBCCI President Md Jashim Uddin, the program was addressed by Chambers Wales' executive chair and business delegation leader Paul Slevin, mission member Darren Hughes, FBCCI senior vice-president Mostafa Azad Chowdhury and vice president Habib Ullah Dawn.

In the opening remark, Uddin said the demand for apparel products made of manmade fibres has been increasing globally where Bangladesh's RMG (readymade garment) industry has a good prospect.

To be a part of that opportunity, investors from Wales can consider Bangladesh a good destination for their investments, he said.

He also said apart from RMG, there are also wide opportunities for foreign investors to do business directly or through joint-venture in the sectors like renewable energy, ICT, ceramic, plastic, furniture and service industry.

Wales' business delegation leader Slevin emphasized on improved people to people relations and cultural exchanges to create a favourable situation for increased trade.

He also mentioned that renewable energy, ICT, infrastructure and service sector are among the top priority for investors of Wales.

Using his home country as an example, he said incentivizing and offering tax benefits to skilled expatriate citizens can make a significant contribution to a country's investment scene.

The Wales delegation is now on a seven day visit in Bangladesh to explore business and investment opportunities in the country.
