Workers of Olio Apparels Limited on Sunday received their arrear wages and allowances at the capital's BGMEA Complex.
According to a statement signed by AKM Siddiqur Rahman, head of HR of Envoy Group, the factory authority paid all the wages, overtime, and other allowances (maximum as per the Labour Act) of the workers for the month of October.
Moreover, he also said that the news regarding the wage's arrears of three or four months were untrue.
The company authority also expressed their thanks to all the workers, workers' representatives, the BGMEA and law enforcement agencies for their utmost cooperation in the peaceful settlement of the workers' arrears.
Earlier on November 1, workers of Olio Apparels blocked the roads protesting the closure of the factory and withdrawal of the authorities' decision to relocate their factory.
The factory was said to have been closed by the owner for relocation.
However, some workers protested against the decision and demanded their unpaid wages.
According to the conciliation meeting regarding labour-related matters of Olio Apparels Ltd between factory authority, workers' representative, BGMEA representatives, and government representative - as the factory is in a rented building, the Fire Service, RSC, and buyers continuously put forward objections over non-compliance and DIFE imposed restrictions on the operations of the factory, and then the authorities decided to relocate the factory to the new address - Chalabon of Uttara - on Tuesday.
After a detailed discussion in the meeting, the decisions were taken unanimously including the payment of basic wages, service benefit,earned leave due, maternity leave due, and other payment for workers from various ranges.
After clearing all the said dues, if any worker wishes to resume employment at the shifted address, they can join the employment afresh.
A source said that factory representatives, workers' representatives, governmental representatives and BGMEA representatives signed the conciliation paper unanimously.
He also said that maybe a number of workers were unaware about the conciliation paper.
