World Bank, top foreign lender to Bangladesh in FY22

ADB second-biggest lender in FY22, followed by JICA

The World Bank was the top lender to Bangladesh, pledging $2.70 billion in assistance during the recently-concluded fiscal year of 2021-22.

The Asian Development Bank (ADB) was the second, followed by Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), officials said.

In FY21 and FY20, the yearly commitments from the World Bank were over $2.3 billion and $2.2 billion respectively.

The World Bank was one of the first development partner of Bangladesh and since independence in 1971, it has committed over $37 billion financing to Bangladesh.

According to the Economic Relations Division (ERD) data, the ADB made a commitment of $2.08 billion in loans and grants from July 2021 to May 2022, while JICA confirmed $1.78 billion.
