Government subsidies in the proposed budget for the 2022-23 fiscal year are likely to increase by Tk15,920 crore to Tk82,745 crore, which is 1.9% of the country’s GDP.
Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal read out the proposals for the upcoming fiscal year in parliament on Thursday.
The overall situation had put pressure on government subsidy management, said the minister.
The recent hikes in oil, gas and fertilizer prices in the international market could increase subsidy spending by another 15-20%, he added.
