In a market dominated by Toyota Hilux pickup trucks and Nissan’s Navara, the upcoming Chinese superstar the Great Wall Motors (GWM) is making a mark in the Bangladeshi market with the double-cabin Haval Poer.
Pronounced as “power”, the name Poer stands for “Potent, Off-road, Enjoyable, and Reliable.”
Customers looking for a taste of the off-road lifestyle will appreciate the Haval Poer, but GWM makes sure that the off-roading experience doesn’t compromise the comfort and luxury inside the cabin.
Although the Poer is built to withstand the harshest terrain and everything life has to throw at it, that doesn't mean you have to forego automotive amenities and cutting-edge technology.
There are three various interiors to choose from, as well as a comprehensive list of features. Keyless entry, push-button start, a multifunctional leather steering wheel with shift paddles, a 9-inch touch screen, leather seats, front seat heating, and more are just a few of the features available.
What’s under the hood?
There are two, 2.0-litre turbocharged engines to choose from – one petrol and one diesel, however only the diesel version is available in the Bangladeshi market. But don’t worry about the engine noise, the Poer’s idle is surprisingly quiet, and that shows how refined the engine truly is.
It comes with a German ZF 8-speed automatic or a 6-speed manual transmission.
Even though the vehicle has not been around for very long to say how durable they are in our conditions, there haven’t been many complaints from the customers as of yet.
The diesel-powered Poer is designed for maximum carrying capacity while also being more fuel-efficient.
The Poer’s engine produces around 161 horsepower and around 400Nm of torque, which I think is sufficient. For an off-road vehicle like this, the Torque matters way more than the horsepower.
This is in par with its competitors-- for example, the 2.8 litre Hilux produces around 221 horsepower and 550 Nm of torque.
There are two sizes available: regular and long axle, with the latter having a 240mm longer wheelbase.
Looks
To say the least, the new Haval Poer is a big car. It boasts a truck-like stance thanks to its large, high grille, and all GWM Poer versions come standard with LED headlights, LED daytime running lights and LED taillights.
However, the vehicle looks much bigger than it really is as the design is slightly rounded. The huge grille at the front of the vehicle helps the vehicle stand out and have a more aggressive stance.
The attractive 17-inch alloy wheels dominate the profile view and it has a really appealing side-on view - not too curved, not too cluttered, just a standard pick-up truck appearance.
The rear has a nice and tidy look; however, the clear-look tail-light treatment may not be to everyone's taste.
The interior design has progressed beyond what we've seen in previous Great Wall models. It has a modern cabin design, with a large 9.0-inch media screen taking center stage and far higher-quality materials than before.
With two cup holders between the seats, bottle holders in the doors, tiny storage space in front of the gear shifter and a covered center console with an armrest cover, there is adequate storage.
The low- and mid-grade models' finishes aren't as appealing, but the top spec's leather trim with quilting strikes the mark for those looking for a little luxury within budget.
This vehicle is most likely to be used for office or for factory purposes, and visiting projects located outside cities should be much easier with the Poer.
Haval is making a significant mark in the Bangladeshi market by gaining a good reputation for its reliability, especially with its SUV and crossovers.
Ace Motors is the official distributor of Haval in Bangladesh. You can get your hands on the Poer at its Tejgaon showroom. The vehicle’s price starts from Tk36 lakh to a little over Tk40 lakh depending on the options.
