Oppo A76 recently launched in Bangladesh with 6GB RAM and 128GB ROM, starting at Tk19,990.
While the smartphone shines in performance and display, the camera system feels like an afterthought with no ultrawide lens, something that is becoming an industry standard these days.
With that in mind, let’s see how the phone stacks up against others in the same price range.
Aesthetic
Oppo A76 is a pretty standard device in its price range. The phone is available in a glowing blue and glowing black in Bangladesh.
The phone is quite lightweight, with only 189 grams in weight. Its height is 164.4mm, width is 75.7 mm and is 8.4 mm thick. This is where Oppo stands out, making good looking phones for the budget market.
In comparison, the Realme 9i, released last month with a price tag of Tk19,490 looks pretty much the same. The only difference is its weight being 190 grams, which is not a difference anyone would feel.
Display
Oppo provided a 90Hz IPS LCD panel with typical brightness of 480 nits. The display size is 6.56 inches with a resolution of 720 x 1612 pixels.
The resolution caught my attention. A display that big should have been at least 1080p. This is something Realme did in its 9i device. With a 6.6 inches display, they offered 1080 x 2412 pixels resolution.
Even Xiaomi, with their Redmi 10 2020 Edition priced at Tk16,999 provided a 6.5 inches display with a resolution of 1080 x 2400 pixels. The display refresh rate of both Realme 9i and Redmi 10 is 90Hz.
I think Oppo had the chance for an improvement in its display resolution. But then again, a lower resolution display means less battery consumption. So, maybe it's not all that bad.
Keep in mind that we have included the price for Redmi 10 and Realme’s 9i 6GB RAM and 128GB ROM phone, so the comparison remains fair.
Performance
This is where the Oppo A76 did really well. The smartphone rocks with the latest 6nm Snapdragon 680 chipset.
The Redmi 10’s 12nm MediaTek Helio G88 chipset does not stand a chance against the Snapdragon 680. However, Realme 9i also provided the same Snapdragon 680 chipset with a Tk500 price cut.
The Snapdragon 680 scores 279,451 in the AnTuTu benchmark, and is a pretty standard processor for a smartphone priced around Tk20,000. It is no Snapdragon 720G or 732G, but it should be able to play most of the graphics intensive games in a medium setting. However, using the Snapdragon 720G or 732G would have increased the price of the smartphone to near Tk25,000.
Camera
The camera on the Oppo A76 did not impress me. For starters, it lacks an ultrawide lens, which is the same when it comes to Realme 9i as well. The 9i also does not have an ultrawide lens either.
Oppo A76 has a 13 MP wide sensor which acts as the main camera and a 2 MP depth camera. In front, it has an 8 MP wide selfie camera.
In comparison, Realme 9i has a 50 MP main wide camera, 2MP depth sensor and a 2MP macro camera.
Redmi 10 surely wins this round with an 8 MP ultrawide camera along with a 50MP main, 2MP depth and a 2MP macro camera.
I don’t have any complaint with Oppo not providing a 2MP macro lens. 2MP macro lenses don’t come to that much use anyways. However, the lack of an ultrawide camera will surely make a difference when deciding to get the phone.
Battery
Oppo A76 has a 5,000 mAh battery like Realme 9i and Redmi 10 2020 Edition. However, this battery should last longer than the other two smartphones considering that the display resolution is less in A76.
The smartphone supports 33W fast charging, which is helpful since it will significantly reduce the charging time. Realme 9i also supports 33W charging while Redmi 10 is still stuck with 18W charging.
Final verdict
The Oppo A76 is a good device without a doubt. If you are an Oppo fan and trust the brand, this phone is something to look into more, unless you’re not so loyal to a brand, in which case the Realme 9i is also a solid option.
