Rubana Huq has stepped down from the board of directors of the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA).
Huq herself confirmed the matter to Bangla Tribune on Thursday.
She wrote to the organization expressing her desire to resign from the role after becoming the vice chancellor of Asian University for Women in February.
Neela Hosna Ara, chairperson of Crony Fashions Ltd, replaced Huq in the BGMEA board.
Huq, who gained prominence as the first female president of the BGMEA, is a published poet who got her PhD in literature from India’s Jadavpur University.
Her panel lost the 2021 BGMEA election to Faruque Hassan, managing director of Giant Group.
