United Hospital observed World Kidney Day in a befitting manner by conducting a free health check-up in a health check booth at the hospital lobby.
Throughout the day, more than five hundred patients and their family members availed free health checks from the booth, said a press release.
The rally was held in the morning, and in the afternoon, a scientific seminar was also organized to commemorate the day where hospital doctors, nurses, and hospital employees participated.
Dr Shanthi Bansal, director of Medical Services of United Hospital inaugurated the health check booth at the hospital lobby in presence of Prof Dr Md Nurul Islam, chief consultant, Nephrology and director, Renal Centre, and also other departmental consultants, doctors, nurses, and other officials.
Prof Dr Md Nurul Islam said: "In line with the theme of World Kidney Day to Kidney Health for All – Bridging the Knowledge Gap to Better Kidney Care, all of us should work to bridge the knowledge gaps to better kidney care."
So far, 39 kidney transplants have been performed. For some reason, it was temporarily stopped. Hopefully, within a very short period, kidney transplantation will again start at United Hospital, he added.
Consultant Nephrology Dr Tanveer Bin Latif said: "Many dialysis centres have been developed in the country which only provides hemodialysis services.
Hemodialysis is not just a machine; it is a medical system and technical expertise that we are handling very carefully in United Hospital."
Consultant Nephrology Dr Tania Mahbub said: "Women, are more at risk of kidney disease than men. Women can keep kidney disease away with regular exercise, blood pressure, and diabetes control. Kidney patients need regular follow-up after 2-3 months of the interval during dialysis sessions."
