Professor Dr Shamsul Alam, State Minister, Ministry of Planning, Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh, said: “Bangladesh Agricultural University has to work simultaneously with every agricultural research institute in the country to achieve effective research in agricultural development and make it sustainable. Through public-private partnerships, BAU has to take the responsibility of spreading new agricultural technologies to farmers.”
He added that BAU teachers and researchers need to be partners in tackling these challenges.
He was speaking at the inauguration of the annual workshop as chief guest on the research progress of Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU) under the Bangladesh Agricultural University Research System (BAURES) on Friday, January 28.
Special guests included executive chairman, Dr Shaikh Mohammad Bokhtiar and Dr F H Ansarey, managing director and CEO of ACI Agribusinesses.
BAU Vice-Chancellor Prof Lutful Hasan was present as chief patron, while BAURES Director Prof Dr Md Abu Hadi Nur Ali Khan presided over the function, and Professor Dr AKM Mominul Islam, associate director of BAURES, and senior scientific officer of BAURES, Dr Paresh Kumar Sarma, coordinated the inauguration ceremony.
BAU VC said: “We can conduct effective research together to develop improved varieties and technologies of paddy as well as various vegetables, fruits, poultry, and livestock.”
The three-day-long annual research progress workshop theme “Sustainable and resilient agriculture: The Path of a Better Future” was held virtually due to the Covid-19 situation.
Based on the H-index of research presented in the workshop, 16 researchers were awarded the Global Research Impact Recognition Award-2022.
In addition, Ashraf Ali Khan Smriti Krishi Puraskar-2022 has been distributed to four farm-level entrepreneurs.
A total of 19 technical sessions will be held in the workshop. It will present the results of a total of 463 research projects.
More than two hundred teachers, researchers, and participants were connected online on the occasion.
