Brac Bank on Tuesday cancelled credit, debit and pre-paid card transactions for 10 listed merchants with immediate effect.
The merchants, which are also online stores, are Evaly (www.evaly.com.bd), Alesha Mart (www.aleshamart.com), Dhamaka (www.dhamakashopping.com), E-orange (www.eorange.shop), Sirajgonj Shop (www.sirajganjshop.com), Aladiner Prodip (www.aladinerprodip.com), Qcoom (www.qcoom.com), Boom Boom (www.boomboom.com.bd), Adyen Mart, and Needs (www.needs.com.bd), according to a press release.
Brac Bank did not specify any reasons for the cancellations.
Ekram Kabir, head of communications at Brac Bank, told UNB that the scrapping of transaction pacts with the 10 outlets was "a strategic decision".
“Our board of directors takes the final call when it comes to partnering with other organisations. The board has decided to suspend transactions with these 10 online stores for the time being," he said.
However, industry insiders said that the decision was taken by the bank's board as part of measures against online shopping platforms embroiled in allegations of fraud raised by customers.
