Jasim Uddin, vice chairman of Bengal Group, on Sunday was elected as the new president of the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industries (FBCCI) for 2021-23.
His selection was uncontested, as he was the sole candidate in the election’s president position.
This time, the president has been named from the association group and senior vice-president from the chamber group.
Earlier on May 5, 78 directors were elected unopposed for the 2021-23 term, who then elected Jasim as the president, alongside a vice-president and six other vice-presidents.
In a list signed by Prof Ali Ashraf, MP, chairman of the FBCCI election management board and other members on May 9, the names of the new president, senior-vice president and vice presidents were announced.

In the FBCCI election, candidates contest from two groups: chambers and associations, sending in their representatives to contest for the election; of which 23 candidates for the post of director are chosen from each group, who then select presidents and vice-presidents.
The total number of posts of directors at the FBCCI is 80. However, for the 2021-23 tenure, the board consisted of 78 directors as the Bangladesh Association of International Recruiting Agencies and the Gopalganj Chamber of Commerce and Industry did not put forward their directors.
