At least 90 per cent government services in Bangladesh will be digitised by the end of 2021, said ICT State Minister Zunaid Ahmed Palak on Saturday.
As part of its plan to digitise 2,800 public services, the government has made more than 600 services online and more 1,152 services are under process of digitisation, he said at a press conference organised by the ICT Division marking 12 years of Digital Bangladesh.
"The government has already introduced e-office aiming to reduce the use of paper and pen and bring dynamism to office work,” he said, adding that more than 90,000 government officials of 8,000 offices are using e-Nothi and so far settled 10.43 million files using e-Nothi system.
Some 6,790 digital centres have been set up across the country and have provided 540.85 million services to citizens.
The strong ICT infrastructure built during the last 12 years has made it possible to continue office work, business, education and health activities amid the pandemic,
The government has also developed different digital platforms including Covid-19 portal, Covid-19 tracer, Covid-19 tracker, food for the nation, health for the nation to face coronavirus, etc, he said.
As many as 39 hi-tech/IT parks would be set up, which would go on to be the lifeline of the digital economy, he said, adding thatbusiness operations have started in the already-built five hi-tech/IT parks.
Unveiling the plan to develop IT skilled human resources, the state minister said that the government has set up Sheikh Russel Digital Lab in 7728 educational institutions to acquire knowledge about IT.
More than 5,000 such labs and 300 schools will be established soon in future, he also said.
The government has developed 15 lakh skilled human resources through providing training during the last 12 years and now training is going on frontier technologies including blockchain, robotics, AI, AR, VR, Cloud Computing, 3D printing to use potentials of the fourth industrial revolution. The number employed by the ICT sector would hit 20 lakh this year, he said.
“We are working to develop startup and innovation culture and provide co-working space for the startups. Besides, innovation hubs are being built in 138 universities,” he added.
