Robi reaches 5C subscriber base milestone

On the occasion of five crore subscribers, Robi and Airtel customers will receive 50 million megabyte (MB) internet data in daily bonus, as part of the celebration

Mobile operator Robi has hit the landmark of five crore active subscribers as its client base, which swelled up quickly amid the easing of the Covid-19 pandemic in recent times.   

Mahtab Uddin Ahmed, managing director and chief executive officer (CEO) of Robi, made the announcement at a virtual media briefing on Thursday.

Posts and Telecommunications Minister, Mustafa Jabbar attended the digital press conference as the chief guest, while Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission’s (BTRC), Chairman, Jahurul Haque joined as the special guest.

“Robi’s quality data services with the strong 4.5G network helped to attain the milestone of five crore subscribers,” Mahtab.

"We are moving towards a new economy - the digital economy, where people will realize their aspirations through the digital route and we are determined to be their partner in this journey by helping them re-imagine life with the touch of technology," he added.

However, the Post and Telecommunications Minister urged the sector people to develop the sector for the country’s prosperity.

“If we cannot develop the telecommunication sector, we would not be able to make Bangladesh a prosperous country,” Mustafa Jabbar remarked.

"We could not make people believe about the importance of telecommunication before the pandemic. Now, even a kindergarten student joins online classes using the internet," said the minister.      

Stressing on the importance of technology, Jabbar said: “Telecom will provide the highway for the country to enter into the era of the fourth industrial revolution. On that highway, I have always found Robi to be the most eager partner in the industry.”

On the occasion of five crore subscribers, Mahtab also declared that Robi and Airtel customers will receive 50 million megabyte (MB) internet data in daily bonus, as part of the celebration.

The free data can be availed by purchasing any of the popular data packs. Mahtab added that Robi and Airtel customers can also enjoy 200MB free data just by installing or logging in to the country’s largest online school, Robi-10 Minute School app for the first time.

Starting from Thursday, the offer will be valid for a month. 

Mahtab also declared that Robi will also arrange a feast for orphanages located in around 50 districts of the country as part of the celebration.

Highlighting Robi’s glorious journey towards the milestone achievement, Robi’s Chief Commercial Officer Shihab Ahmed noted that Robi was the first telecom operator to launch 3.5G service, only operator to launch 4.5G service in all 64 districts from the day of the launch.

Robi’s Chief Corporate and Regulatory Officer Shahed Alam moderated the press conference.
