Apparel Promoters Limited, an Chittagong based RMG accessories manufacturer, recently announced that it would produce internationally testified medical masks and KN95 masks, under the brand name "Smart Smile," for both the domestic and global markets.
The company came up with the announcement at a program at Pan Pacific Sonargaon Dhaka Hotel on August 27, said a media release.
The company has already partnered with China-based Golden Found Company and installed machineries with state-of-the-art technologies in its factory, to this end, the statement further said.
Apparel Promoters Ltd Chairman Mostafizur Rahman, Managing Director Mujibur Rahman, and Directors (Mask Unit) Peter Dong and Nicole Shine were present in the event, among others.
Smart Smile surgical masks have been designed with three layers, including melt blown one, which has 95% bacteria filtration efficiency (BFE) and 95% particle filtration efficiency (PFE), the press statement says, adding that the Smart Smile KN95 mask would protect users with five layers.
Mostafizur Rahman said from the very beginning, the market of face masks faced challenges as global mask production was insufficient compared to the overnight surge in demand, due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
"Now we are here to provide quality masks to tackle the spread of Covid-19 both in local and global markets,” he added.
The company has already finalized a deal for shipping 25 million pieces of KN95 masks to the US, he said.
"We are also negotiating the price to export two billion more pieces of masks to the US market under a mega deal," Mostafizur said.
He further said in the local and even in global markets, ordinary masks were available of which PFE and BFE test reports were between 25% and 33%. Smart Smile masks, on the other hand, will ensure at least 95% PFE and BFE, he added.
Peter Dong, one of the directors of the mask unit, said: “Our factory is equipped with new technology devices and machineries which produce masks with 100% safety compliance, so we can maintain hygiene and effectiveness of the product. Also we have already got the FDA registration, which means we can export it to the US market now.”
