Bangladesh Bank has asked all commercial banks to freeze the accounts maintained by top officials of e-commerce platform Evaly.

Bangladesh Financial Intelligence Unit (BFIU), on behalf of the central bank, issued a letter to banks on Thursday instructing to freeze accounts of Evaly’s Chairman Shamima Nasrin, and Managing Director (MD) Md Rasel.

According to the BFIU letter, transactions to and from the bank accounts of Evaly chairman and MD have been suspended for the next 30 days under the Money Laundering Prevention Act.

Evaly has been the talk of the country since a mainstream Bangla newspaper published a report regarding its business model.

On Wednesday, the Ministry of Commerce opened an inquiry into the activities of the e-commerce platform.
