Bangladesh Reconditioned Vehicles Importers and Dealers Association (Barvida) yesterday welcomed Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's Tk72,750 crore stimulus package to mitigate the impact of coronavirus on the national economy.

In a statement signed by its president Abdul Haque, the organization called it timely and innovative.

The Barvida president reiterated their previous request of seeking waiver on port rent charges until December from the government for the vehicles they brought in through Mongla and Chittagong ports.

They also demanded a halt in the car auction process until December, which the customs authorities organize in ports.

The Bangladesh Bank already announced a facility for borrowers to avert being a loan defaulter in case of non-payment of installments until June 2020. Barvida demanded the facility to be extended up to December.

They also demanded concessional loans to car importers and dealers in proportion to their annual turnover.
