Automation in production and eco-friendly recycling of raw materials were key factors behind sustained development in the country’s denim industry, said manufacturers and exporters in an expo on Tuesday.
The 11th Bangladesh Denim Expo began at International Convention City Bashundhara (ICCB) in Dhaka on Tuesday, showcasing the latest denim fabrics, denim-made garment items and other accessories and machinery of nearly 100 local and international exhibitors.
The two-day expo also aims to shed light on the ongoing trend and advancements in sustainable denim production techniques around the globe.
Shahed Ahmed, business development manager at DAD International Ltd, a German-based company dealing with apparel machinery, said they started getting orders for supplying machinery on the opening day.
Emphasizing further automation to increase efficiency in denim industry, Shahed said: “Efficiency will directly affect the productivity. Automation is the future and to achieve sustainable growth the denim industry should focus on that."
Shams Mohammad Salauddin, business development manager, AMANN Bangladesh, said his company was showcasing eco-friendly denim threads to ensure sustained growth in the industry.
“We recycle plastic bottles into plastic chips and later make plastic threads from those. Discarded plastic bottles are a big concern around the world and recycling those in an eco-friendly manner will help to achieve desired growth,” he said.
Spanish denim manufacturer Jeanologia's General Manager Fabien Bertrand Liautard told Dhaka Tribune that the expo was helping foreign companies to meet local industry people.
"I believe the view exchange about latest market trends and technologies would help sustainable growth of the denim industry of Bangladesh,” he said.
Lisa Deng, sales manager, Aufar Textile Company Ltd, said her company was participating in the expo to find new customers and explore the market.
“We are showcasing our products and also expecting spot orders. As this is the opening day, we are yet to receive any order but looking forward to remaining days of the expo,” she added.
Besides, denim fabrics and denim related finished products, accessories like buttons, zippers and dying chemicals are also being showcased in the expo.
This year, Bangladesh Denim Expo (BDE) will organize four seminars in which leading industry experts are scheduled to highlight the development aspects in textile machinery, chemicals and sustainable technology.
