Inflation falls in August: BBS

BBS Director General Krishna Gayen says the Consumer Price Index (CPI) data were collected from August 13 to 18 for measuring the inflation

Inflation decreased in August moderately compared to previous month of this year due to fall in food and non-food prices.

In August, inflation came down to 5.49% from 5.62% in July, the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS) data shows. 

Food inflation in the month came down to 5.27% from 5.42% in July while non-food inflation fell to 5.82% from 5.94%. 

BBS Director General Krishna Gayen says the Consumer Price Index (CPI) data were collected from August 13 to 18 for measuring the inflation.

In urban areas, inflation slumped to 5.75% in August from 5.88% in July. It was 5.34% in August and 5.49% in July, the BBS says.
