A day-long buyers-sellers conference, followed by an exhibition of goods, was organized by Bangladesh Small and Cottage Industries Corporation (BSCIC)’s Jamdani Palli at Rupganj upazila in Narayanganj on Saturday.

The event was inaugurated by BSCIC chairman Md Mostaque Hassan.

During the conference, The Role of Marketing in Industry Expansion, discussants talked about the shabby road conditions and water crisis at the Jamdani Palli for the last 10 years and why no steps were taken to resolve these issues.

Buyers and sellers also alleged several complaints were made to the relevant authorities, but to no avail.

Alongside fixing these issues, they also demanded short-term loans from the government to help them in expanding their businesses.

BSCIC Chairman Mostaque stressed organizing intensive training sessions for Jamdani artisans.

Shah Nuruzzaman, general manager for marketing at BSCIC, presided over the conference, while other top BSCIC officials were also present.

Located in Tarabo pouroshova, the Jamdani Palli is the country's biggest Jamdani production and marketing hub, having a total of 460 plots sold or leased to the wholesalers.

It is popularly known for its weekend haats, a wholesale market, which is primarily meant for the welfare of the weavers so that they can sell their products easily, at reasonable price.

One weaver can weave two to three sarees in one month, so they are not capable to maintain a shop. For that all weavers offer their products to the wholesalers.
