Three-day international tourism fair kicks off in Dhaka

Travel agencies are offering 10–25% discounts at the fair

A three-day international tourism fair kicked off in Dhaka on Thursday.

State Minister for Civil Aviation and Tourism, Md Mahbub Ali, formally inaugurated the fair titled Novoair Dhaka Travel Mart 2019, at the Pan Pacific Sonargaon hotel.

Speaking at the event, the state minister said: "The [tourism] sector will expand if the private sector flourishes. There is no doubt that our tourism sector is gradually growing. 

"The government has undertaken a number of initiatives and is implementing major infrastructural development projects to facilitate growth of tourism in the country," Mahbub added.

The Bangladesh Monitor, a fortnightly travel magazine, is organizing the fair for the 16th time. Novoair, Bangladesh Tourism Board, Biman Bangladesh Airlines, and Mutual Trust Bank are co-sponsoring the event.

Among others, The Bangladesh Monitor Chief Editor Raquib Siddiqi, Nepalese Ambassador to Bangladesh Dhan Bahadur Oli, Bangladesh Tourism Board CEO Bhubon Chandra Biswas, Novoair Managing Director Mofizur Rahman, and Biman Bangladesh Airlines General Manager (marketing and sales) Mohammad Shamsul Karim, were also present at the inaugural ceremony. 

According to organizers, 41 organizations from seven countries—including Bangladesh—will display their products and services in five pavilions and 70 stalls at the fair. 

This year, Nepal has joined the tourism fair as a partner country.

National tourism organizations from Bangladesh, Nepal, Thailand, Indonesia, and Malaysia are participating in the fair, along with airlines, tour operators, hotels, resorts, online booking portals, and healthcare service providers. 

Participating agencies and organizations are offering 10-25% discounts for visitors on their products and services, including domestic and international air tickets and holiday packages for home and abroad. 

Biman Bangladesh Airlines is offering up to 25% discount on economy class tickets for the Dhaka-Kolkata, Dhaka-Kathmandu, Dhaka-Yangon, Dhaka-Bangkok, Dhaka-Singapore, and Dhaka-Kuala Lumpur routes. 

US-Bangla airlines is offering up to 20% discount at the fair—20% discount for Dhaka-Bangkok route, 15% for Dhaka-Kuala Lumpur route, 10% off for Dhaka-Singapore route, 15% off for Dhaka-Chennai route, 10% off for Dhaka-Kolkata route, and 10% off for all domestic routes. 

The fair will remain open to visitors for an entry fee of Tk30, from 10am to 8pm every day, until Saturday.
