The 24th annual Dhaka International Trade Fair (DITF) will start on Wednesday with 550 stalls and pavilions at Sher-E-Bangla Nagar in Dhaka, beside the Bangabandhu International Conference Center.
The month-long fair will continue till February 8, 2019.
Furniture, electronics and electrical, food and beverage, readymade garments, cosmetics, carpets, and jewelry will be main customer-attractions this year.
The construction and decoration of the pavilions and stalls along with other utilities is going on in full swing, although some of the work is yet to be completed and is expected to be done soon. Some companies might need a few additional days to set up their stalls.
Hatil, Navana, Partex, Nadia, Akhter, and Delta are the notable furniture giants that will be participatingin this year’s fair. Their pavilions are almost ready.
Among the electronics and electrical sector, Electro mart limited, Walton, Rangs, Samsung, and LG-Butterfly are set to start from the very first day of the fair.
Though their construction work is steadily going on, Akij Food and Beverages, Mr Noodles, and Sajeeb Corporation have doubts about completing the stalls before the inauguration.
Abdur Rahman an electricianfor Sajeeb Corporation said: “We are working hard but we wouldn’t be able to finish our construction in due time. We need some more time. It may take 1-3 more days after the fair begins.”
Most pavilionsselling foreign products and traders are ready to start from the very first day.
Pavilionsfor India, South Korea, andTurkey are almost complete.
Karupannya Rangpur Limited will be showcasing a unique architectural design in their pavilion. The pavilion fence has been made with betel nut wood, the roof with elephant grass carpet,with leaves from the same tree above the carpet.
Designer Saidul Haque said: “As a designer, I wanted to connect the young generation with the oldergenerations, where we have seen various natural sources of construction. We wanted to uphold our heritage for this generation to see.”
Law enforcement agencies, especially the Dhaka Metropolitan Police has arranged for foolproofsecurity measures to cover the whole fair area.
The fair is beingjointly organized by the Export Promotion Bureau and the Ministry of Commerce.
