Land ports earn Tk148cr as revenue in FY18

Three land ports — Benapole, Burimari and Bhomra — earned 84% of the total revenue of Tk148.33 crore

Revenue earnings from the country’s land ports have continued to maintain a steady rise in fiscal year 2017-18.

The ports have earned Tk148.33 crore which Tk36.86 crore more and 33% up from Tk100 crore of fiscal year 2016-17. The revenue earned in fiscal year 2015-16 was Tk83 crore, reported BSS.

Bangladesh Land Port Authority (BLPA) Chairman Tapan Kumar Chakrabharty said: “Revenue earnings from the land ports have been maintaining an increasing trend in revenue because of the development of infrastructure. Exporters and importers at the same time are getting timely services from the ports also.”

Three land ports — Benapole, Burimari and Bhomra — earned 84% of the total revenue of Tk148.33 crore. Like previous fiscal years, Benapole has mobilized Tk48.72 crore, Burimari Tk46.24 while Bhomra Tk21 crore.

The BLPA said: “Development of infrastructure of two more land ports and expansion of Benapole and Bhomra ports are progressing fast. Export-import will go up through the land ports when the development progrjects will be completed,”

Sonamasjid land port collected Tk3.82 crore in revenue, Tamabil Tk 6.46 crore, Hili Tk6.07 crore, Teknaf Tk4.74, Banglabandha Tk47 crore and Akhaura Tk5 lakh, Nakugaon Tk11 lakh and Bibirbazar Tk1.0 lakh in 2018 fiscal year.

In the current fiscal year, the government has targeted to collect Tk165 crore from the land ports.

There are a total of 23 land ports in the country at present and out of these ports, 12 ports deal with exports-imports while BLPA operates the 11 ports as customs station.
