Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Thursday asked for more Danish investment in Bangladesh, and offered space in the country’s special economic zones for the set up of Danish industries.
The prime minister made the offer when outgoing Danish Ambassador in Dhaka Mikael Hemniti Winther paid a farewell visit to her at her office. Prime Minister’s Office Principal Secretary Md Nojibur Rahman was also present, reports UNB.
PM’s Press Secretary Ihsanul Karim briefed reporters after the meeting.
The prime minister expressed satisfaction over the existing bilateral relationship between Bangladesh and Denmark, and thanked the Danish envoy for his role in strengthening cooperation between the two countries, the press secretary said.
She also praised the “friendly countries” that came forward to assist Bangladesh with the problems created by the influx of Rohingya refugees from Myanmar.
Furthermore, Sheikh Hasina highlighted Bangladesh’s socio-economic and technological development.
The Danish envoy said Bangladesh-Denmark relations had reached a new high.
Mikael Hemniti Winther also appreciated the prime minister’s humanitarian gesture in hosting 1.1 million Rohingyas. Praising the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, the envoy said Bangladesh had witnessed massive progress, and the image of the country had significantly improved in the international arena.
