Budget FY19: Allocation for power and energy sector up by 18%

The proposed allocation is 5.36% of the total budget of the total budget of 2018-19 fiscal year

The government has proposed allocating Tk24,921 crore for the power and energy sector in the upcoming fiscal year – Tk3,803 crore or 18% higher than the allotment given in the outgoing fiscal year. 

The new allocation amounts to around 5.36% of the proposed national budget that Finance Minister AMA Muhith placed before parliament on Thursday. 

The total budget for 2018-19 fiscal year stands at Tk464,573 crore.

The proposed allocation for the sector is 0.08 percentage points higher than that in 2017-18 fiscal year.

The allocation in the outgoing year was Tk21,118 crore, amounting to around 5.28% of the total budget.

Of the new allocation, the Power Division will receive Tk22,936 crore, while the rest will go to the Energy and Mineral Resources Division.
