BGAPMEA has awarded exporting trophy to 12 exporters of garment accessories and packaging sector for the first time.
The trophy has been given as per export account from January to December 2016 in four categories such as Gold, Silver, Bronze and special among a total of 40 applications.
The Bangladesh Garments Accessories and Packaging Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGAPMEA) organised the event at International Convention City Bashundhara (ICCB) in the capital on Sunday.
Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed said when the RMG sector started operating, manufacturers were fully dependent on import of raw materials as well as accessories. Now, the manufacturers were exporting accessories meeting local demands, he said.
“It is praiseworthy and I hope, the backward linkage industry will be able to contribute $12 billion to meet $50 billion export target of the apparel sector by 2021,” the minister said.
The National Board of Revenue (NBR) chairman Md Mosharraf Hossain Bhuiyan and the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce & Industries (FBCCI) president Md Shafiul Islam Mohiuddin also spoke at the programme with BGAPMEA president Abdul Kader Khan in the chair.
Trade fair committee chairman Moazzem Hossain Moti and Monir Uddin Ahmed were also present there.
BGAPMEA president Abdul Kader Khan said, Bangladesh can meet 95% of demand of garment accessories and packaging products. Meeting local demands, someone started to export directly.
To encourage manufacturers to export more, the exporters were being awarded and it would continue to enlarge the country’s export to meet $50 billion target.
