Bangladesh plans to organize an international conference on the Rohingya crisis next year, tentatively scheduled for September or October.
The venue and other arrangements are expected to be finalized by March or April.
Chief Adviser’s Press Secretary, Shafiqul Alam, shared this information on Tuesday in response to a journalist’s question during a press briefing at the Foreign Service Academy.
Addressing a question about whether Bangladesh is taking any strategic measures or preparing given its 270-kilometer border shared with Rakhine State, Shafiqul Alam said that the entire situation is being closely monitored.
He also said that considering the overall Rohingya situation, the Chief Adviser has appointed a high-ranking representative to oversee and monitor the matter.
This representative will engage with the stakeholders involved.
He said: "One of our major initiatives for next year will be to organize a large international conference on the Rohingya crisis. We aim to finalize its venue and other arrangements by March or April."
Shafiqul Alam expressed hope that the conference would take place around September or October next year.
"We hope representatives from all countries will participate, particularly the United Nations, European Union, United States, India, China, and other key players interested in the Rohingya issue," he said.
Referring to prior discussions with the United Nations on the matter, the press secretary said that the Chief Adviser had shared this plan during his participation in the UN conference.
