At least 30 houses and 15 shops were gutted in a fire that swept through a Rohingya camp in Cox’s Bazar’s Ukhiya upazila on Friday.
The fire originated in a house in Camp 7 near TV Tower area, said Cox’s Bazar Fire Service And Civil Defence Senior Station Officer Shahadat Hossain.
“Four firefighting units from Cox’s Bazar and Ukhiya, along with members of the Armed Police Battalion (APBn), managed to douse the flame within an hour,” he added.
There were at least three major fires in the crowded Rohingya camps in Cox’s Bazar last month.
On January 18, at least 30 homes were destroyed in Camp 5 in Ukhiya.
On January 9, a fire broke out in Camp 16, destroying at least 1,200 houses.
At least 20 houses and a healthcare centre were gutted in Kutupalong camp on January 2.
But the deadliest one was in March last year, when a devastating fire killed at least 15 Rohingyas and burned down more than 10,000 homes.
