Update : 13 Feb 2022, 06:38 PM

Deputy United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) Kelly T Clements arrived in Dhaka on Sunday for a six-day mission to Bangladesh.

During her visit, Clements, the second highest official of the UN refugee agency, will call for sustained international support for the hundreds of thousands of Rohingyas who sheltered in Cox's Bazar to escape the unprecedented atrocities orchestrated by the Myanmar security forces and their civilian accomplices.

"Yes, the deputy high commissioner began her six-day visit to Bangladesh today (Sunday)," an official of UNHCR Bangladesh told Dhaka Tribune.

Clements will meet with counterparts from the Government of Bangladesh to discuss the ongoing response for Rohingya refugees in Cox’s Bazar and Bhasan Char.

She will also meet with Rohingya refugees for a direct and in-depth understanding of current needs, challenges and hopes for the future.

Additionally, she will hold discussions with donors, civil society groups and partner organizations working on the refugee response.

Indrika Ratwatte, UNHCR Director of the Regional Bureau for Asia and the Pacific, is accompanying her on the mission.

This is Clements’ third mission to Bangladesh as deputy high commissioner.

She previously worked for UNHCR in Cox’s Bazar early in her career.
