One child was burnt to death in a fire that broke out at Kutupalong Rohingya camp in Cox's Bazar’s Ukhiya upazila on Tuesday.
The identity of the deceased was yet to be determined. At least 300 shanties were caught in the blaze.
The fire originated in B block of Kutupalong Camp No-5 in the afternoon.
Shamsud Douza Nayan, additional commissioner of Cox's Bazar Refugee Relief and Repatriation Office, said the fire was brought under control by the Fire Service and Armed Police Battalion (APBn) along with locals.
Mohammad Abdullah, deputy assistant director of Cox's Bazar Fire Service, said two units of Ukhiya Fire Services were first deployed to keep the blaze under control when they were informed of the fire.
“Later, two more units were sent to the Rohingya camp. After significant effort, we were finally able to douse the fire,” he added.
