Fifth phase of Rohingya relocation: 1,762 more Rohingyas en route to Bhashan Char

They will stay in Chittagong overnight before sailing for the island on Thursday morning

Another two batches comprising 1,762 Rohingyas from different refugee camps in Cox’s Bazar have left for Bhashan Char in Noakhali on the second day of the fifth phase of the ongoing relocation process.

As many as 1,000 of them stared their journey on 20 buses on Wednesday morning, while the rest left on 10 buses in the afternoon.

They are scheduled to stop over at the BN Shahin College transit camp in Chittagong city on Wednesday night, before being finally boarded on the ships to Bhashan Char on Thursday morning.

Earlier in the day, the opening day of the fifth phase of the relocation, some 2,257 Rohingyas sailed to Bhashan Char on six navy ships.

Confirming the development, Additional Refugee Relief and Repatriation Commissioner Mohammad Shamsud Douza said in the fifth phase, a total of 4,021 Rohingyas from 982 families were supposed to be relocated.
