A two-and-a-half-year-old Rohingya toddler fell sick on Bhashan Char on Wednesday and, upon the recommendation of the attending doctor on the island, the baby was taken to Noakhali Sadar Hospital, a top official told Dhaka Tribune.
The child is one of the 1,642 Rohingyas who were relocated to the island under Noakhali district from Cox's Bazar on Friday.
The parents of the female child went to a clinic on the island with complaints of respiratory distress and fever.
She was initially treated with oxygen inhalation and nebulization with Windel Plus.
At the same time, the physician recommended the baby, who has a history of bronchial asthma, be evacuated for the medical emergency.
Following the doctor's recommendation, the toddler was shifted to Noakhali Sadar Hospital.
"Yes, a little girl got sick and we took the measures that needed to be taken," Commodore AA Mamun Chowdhury told this correspondent over the phone.
"We have a system in place to respond to any medical emergencies," he added.
