The Japanese foreign minister, who is leading a 13-member delegation, arrived at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport around 8:15pm on Monday on a special flight.
He was received by Foreign Ministry Secretary (Asia and Pacific) Mahbub Uz Zaman.
The Japanese foreign minister will visit Cox's Bazar on Tuesday morning to talk with Rohingya communities there to get an overview of the situation.
After coming from Cox's Bazar, Kono will hold a bilateral meeting with his Bangladeshi counterpart AK Abdul Momen at 7pm in Dhaka.
